U.S. AI Policy Changes and the $500B Stargate Announcement

With the new administration comes a new U.S. policy on Artificial Intelligence.

Yesterday, President Trump repealed President Biden's 2023 "Executive Order on the Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence."

Some see this as lifting a regulatory burden that could supercharge innovation, especially for those of us bullish on AI's potential. Yet this also raises concerns about AI safety. Meanwhile, China's rapid AI progress (such as recently with DeepSeek AI's models, which censor queries on sensitive topics like Taiwan and Tiananmen Square) may widen the capabilities gap if the U.S. doesn't match pace.

The Stargate Joint Venture

Today, a massive $500 billion "AI infrastructure" investment was announced between SoftBank, OpenAI, and Oracle, forming a new joint venture called "Stargate." The initiative is starting with the development of "colossal data centers" - 10 buildings are currently being built, with 10 more coming soon, and the first one in Texas. According to the announcement, 100,000 new jobs will be created "immediately."

President Trump has declared we're in an "emergency" with the U.S. falling behind on AI, and has indicated that more Executive Orders and actions will be taken on this matter.

In related developments, Masayoshi Son additionally name-dropped Microsoft and NVIDIA during the announcement. Sam Altman expressed his enthusiasm, stating he's "thrilled we get to do this in America."

Looking Forward

I remain positively optimistic about these developments, and I look forward to seeing the U.S. continue to innovate in Artificial Intelligence. This is particularly important for our National Security and economic prosperity.
